Kids Blog-The Power of the Holy Spirit
Last week, kids learned that God's Holy Spirit gives us power.
Bible Story: Peter and John before the Sanhedrin Acts 4
Bible Verse: And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Jesus Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. Romans 8:11
In Acts 4, we read about Peter and John who were brought before the Sanherin to be questioned. Peter and John were seized and put in jail for healing a lame beggar and teaching and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. When the rulers, the elders, and the teachers of the law asked, "By what power or what name did you do this?" Peter addressed them, "It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed." Peter boldly proclaimed that it is by faith in Jesus that this man was made strong, completely healed and that salvation is found in no one else but Jesus. When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that Peter and John were unschooled and ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. Peter and John did not come from noble background. They were not well-educated scholars. So how did they speak the truth powerfully? How were they courageous? Acts 4:8 writes, "Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "rulers and elders of the people!" Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit. It was the power of the Holy Spirit that empowered him to declare the name of Jesus boldly despite the risks and threats. Acts 4:31 also tells us that when the believers prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
There may be times we feel weak or powerless. When we try to share our faith with others or try to obey and live by God's Word at home, school, or online, we need the power of the Holy Spirit to speak boldly and obey Him. Instead of trying to be powerful all on our own, let us rely on the power of the Holy Spirit in everything we do so we may live lives that please and honor Him.
