Kids Blog-Five loaves and two fish
Last week, kids heard a bible story about a time when Jesus provided for the needs of more than 5,000 people.
Bible Story: Jesus feeds the five thousand, John 6:1-15
Bible verse: Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated at much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. John 6:11
When Jesus and His disciples crossed the Sea of Galilee, the crowd of people were already waiting for them on the other side. A great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick. When Jesus saw them, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?" The Bible says He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. Philip answered hm, "It would take more than half a year's wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!" He said this because there were 5000 men plus women and children! Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother spoke up. "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?" Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. The disciples passed out the food to the people and everyone ate until they were full. Then Jesus told the disciples to collect any leftover food. They collected 12 baskets full of bread and fish!
This story reminds us that when Jesus saw the crowd following after Him, He had compassion for them, provided for their physical needs and filled their hunger. He used a little boy's lunch and turned it into an amazing miracle to feed 5,000 people. At times, we underestimate what our God can do in our lives because we just pay attention to what we have in our hands and assume that God will not use it. Just as Jesus commanded to bring Him whatever food and resources the little boy had and blessed over them, He wants us to trust Him and bring all we have to Him. God will use our limited resources, small gestures of kindness, talents, and gifts and turn them into an amazing miracle for His Kingdom. This week, let's look around and see how we can share what we have with others and let's pray that God will use it to share His love.
