Kids Blog-True Worship
This week, kids learned that God created us to worship Him with all our heart.
Bible Story: Jesus talks with a Samaritan woman, John 4
Bible Verse: God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. John 4:24
In John 4, Jesus came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, Jacob's well was there. Jesus was tired from the journey, sat by the well. A Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, "Will you give me a drink?" The Samaritan woman said to him, "You're a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?" Jesus answered, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water." Jesus also said, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life." As their conversation continued, the Samaritan woman realized that Jesus had profound wisdom and knowledge and asked,"I can see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem." Jesus replied, "believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem...a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth."
The Samaritan woman wanted to know, "Should I worship on this mountain or in Jerusalem?" Sometimes, we ask similar questions. What is worship? Should I have my hands raised when I am worshipping? Do I need to sing really loud so God can hear when I praise? Should I close my eyes when I am worshipping? What should I wear when I go to church? Do I need to use complex and advanced vocabulary when I pray to God? Jesus kindly replied and revealed that it is not really about where they worship, but God seeks those who worship Him in the Spirit and in truth. When we think about worship, if we are not careful, we may become fixated on things that is not at the center of God's heart. This week, let's think about worship and pray that God will give us understanding and His power to worship Him with all our heart. What does it mean to worship Him in the Spirit and in Truth? Truth is found in God's Word. So how do we align our lives with God's Truth? What are some ways we can worship Him with all our heart today and every day at home? How can we be truthful and honest in the way we worship Him? Think about daily activities we do, places we visit, and family members we spend time with daily. As we worship God this week, let's thank Him for creating us, protecting us, forgiving us, healing us, comforting us, loving us, and for everything He does.
