Kids Blog-It was not you who sent me here, but God
Last week, kids learned that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.
Bible Story: Joseph Genesis 45
Bible Verse: You intend to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. Genesis 50 :20
Have you ever wondered why bad things happen and doubted that anything good can come out of bad situations? In the Bible, there was a man named Joseph who experienced tremendous adversity in his lifetime. When Joseph was a young man, the Bible tells us his father, Jacob loved Joseph more than any of his other sons because Joseph had been born to him in his old age. When his brothers saw that their father loved Joseph more than any of them, they hated him. God also revealed to Joseph from an early age that one day, Joseph would be a ruler and reign over even his family. When Joseph shared his dream to his brothers, they hated him all the more. One day, when Jacob sent Joseph out to the field where his brothers were grazing the flocks, they plotted to kill him, threw him into the cistern, and eventually sold him into slavery. Joseph was taken to Egypt to Potiphar one of the Pharaoh's officials. However, when Joseph wasserving in Potiphar's household, he was falsely accused by Potiphar's wife and was confined in prison. While he was in prision, Joseph interpreted the cupbearer and the baker's dreams by God's help and asked them to remember him and help him get out of prision. But the cupbearer forgot Joseph. It would be an understatment to simply say Joseph went through a lot. Joseph was mistreated, physically, emotionally abused by his own brothers, sold into slavery to a foriegn land, misunderstood, falsely accused, imprisoned, forgotten, rejected, and betrayed.
But while all these tragic events were happening to Joseph, the Bible tells us the LORD was with Joseph. In Genesis 39, Joseph was working for his Egyptian master, Potiphar, his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did. In Genesis 40, Joseph was in prision. Yet even in prision, the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did. Joseph's prison warden put him in charge of all those held in prision. In Genesis 41, when Joseph interpreted Pharaoh's dream, Pharaoh recognized that the Spirit of God was in Joseph and God has made everything known to him. Wherever Joseph was, whether it was Egyptian's master's household, prision, or Pharaoh's palace, God was with Joseph.
When Pharaoh had troubling dreams, the cupbearer remembered Joseph, Joseph was quickly brought from the dungeon, interpreted Pharaoh's dream, and provided a plan to prepare for seven years of great abundance and seven years of famine. Pharaoh recognized that God has given Joseph wisdom and discernment and put him in charge of Egypt as his second-in-command. Later in Genesis 45, Joseph told his brothers to not be distressed for selling him as a slave because God sent him ahead of them to save lives. God revealed to Joseph that He sent him to preserve fora remnant and save lives by storing up grains during seven years of abundance to be used during the seven years of famine. Joseph's brothers plotted to kill him but God intended it for good to accomplish because in all things our God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.
There may be bad things happening in our lives right now, but let us trust that God will turn those unfortunate events to accomplish His good purpose and through it all, He will be glorified. Let us also trust that just as God was with Joseph even when he was in his master's house, prison, and Pharaoh's palace in a foriegn land, God is with us wherever we go. Amen.
