Kids Blog-Spiritual food
Last week, kids learned that reading the Bible keeps our spirits healthy.
Bible Story: Jesus is tested in the wilderness, Matthew 4:1-11
Bible verse: Jesus answered, "It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" Matthew 4:4
After Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. Many of us cannot last a day if we don't eat anything but Jesus did not eat anything for forty days. Can you imagine how hungry he must have been? The devil, whose only plan is to steal, kill, and destroy came to Jesus in that moment and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." This is what the devil does to many of us. He catches us in our weakest and most vulnerable moment and tempts us with his evil scheme. I am sure Jesus was really hungry and he could have used a small bread to gain energy. But Jesus answered, "It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" He taught that although we eat food to sustain our body, we should not live on physical food alone, we should feed and nourish our minds and souls with spiritual food, which is God's Word. Living on God's Word will keep our spirits healthy and help us live in a way that God wants us to live. In 2 Timothy 3, Paul wrote to Timothy and reminded him that the Scriptures will make him wise for salvation through faith in Jesus, and all Scripture is God-breathed, useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that we may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Just as we eat daily to be healthy and strong so that we have energy and strength to live, study, work, and perform other tasks, we need God's Word daily to grow spiritually so that we have be prepared and equipped to do God's Work. Especially during pandemic, it is easy to just consume what the news media says about covid-19 and feel worried and anxious. Instead of paying attention to what everyone is saying about what is happening around the world, let us draw near to God and let God's Word speaks to us. In Psalm 23, King David remembered that the LORD is his shepherd even though he walked through hard times, God was always with him and He comforted him. He remained in the LORD who refreshed his soul. This week, let's pray that even when we are feeling sad, anxious, confused, or lonely, that we will look to God's Word to speak clearly to our hearts.
Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
