Kids Blog-Speak, for your servant is listening
This week, kids learned that God created us to worship Him and spend time focused on Him by listening to His voice and obeying Him.
Bible Story: The LORD calls Samuel 1 Samuel 3
Bible verse: The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" Then Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant is listening." 1 Samuel 3:10
One night, Samuel was lying down in the house of the LORD where the ark of God was, then the LORD called Samuel. Samuel ran to Eli the priest and said, "Here I am, you called me." But Eli said, "I did not call, go back and lie down." So he went and lay down. Again the LORD called, "Samuel!" And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, "Here I am, you called me." Eli said, "I did not call, go back and lie down." A third time the LORD called, "Samuel!" And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, "Here I am, you called me." Then Eli realized that the LORD was calling the boy. So Eli told Samuel, "Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, "Speak, LORD for your servant is listening." So Samuel went and lay down in his place. The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" Then Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant is listening." And the LORD told Samuel what he was about to do in Israel, His plan to carry out judgment against Eli's family for their sin. The Bible tells us the LORD was with Samuel as he grew up and he let none of Samuel's words fall to the ground. All Israel recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the LORD and the LORD continued to reveal Himself to Samuel through his word. The story of Samuel in 1 Samuel 3 shows that Samuel loved the LORD from his young age and attentively listened to the voice of God. He feared the LORD and honored Him by listening and obeying His Word. God has given us His Word, the Bible to speak to us directly, so that we may believe He is our LORD, Savior, Redeemer, and Healer. He speaks to us through His Word, corrects our way, convicts of our wrongdoing, helps us to repent, turn away from our sin, empowers us to live like Jesus, guide us and lead us to His plan for our lives. This week, let's pray and ask God to help us spend time focused on Him through reading the Bible, sitting quietly and thinking about Him, praying, and showing love and kindness to others. Just as Samuel desired to get closer to God at an early age and God was with him as he grew up, let us take time to listen to Him and obey His Word.
