Kids Blog-Daniel interpreted the Dream
Last week, kids learned that when Daniel and his three friends fell on their knees and prayed to God, He gave them wisdom to interpret the king's dream.
Bible Story: Nebuchadnezzar's dream, Daniel 2
Bible Verse: "I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors. You have given me wisdom and power, you have made known to me what we asked of you, you have made knwon to us the dream of the king." Daniel 2:23
In Daniel 2, King Nebuchadnezzar had dreams, his mind was troubled and he could not sleep. He summoned the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers to tell him what he had dreamed and interpret it. However, none of his servants were able to do what the king asked. They said that what the king asks is too dificult, no one can reveal it to the king except the gods. This made the king so angry that he ordered the execution of all the wise men of Babylon. When Arioch, the commander of the king's guard, had gone out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, Daniel spoke to him with wisdom.Daniel went in to the king and asked for time, so he might interpret the dream for him. Then Daniel returned to his house and urged his friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah to plead for mercy from the God of heaven. During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision.
Daniel went in to the king and told him that no wise men, enchanter, magician, or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries. Daniel explained to the king that God has shown the king what will happen in days to come. A large statue in gold, silver, bronze, iron and clay represented different kingdoms that were to come. The rock that struck the feet of the statue and broke it to pieces meant that God will set up an eternal kingdom that will crush all the earthly kingdoms, and endure forever. At this interpretation, King Nebuchadnexxar fell before Daniel and and acknolwedged that Daniel's God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries. Then he made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and placed him in charge of all its wise men. At Daniel's request, the king also appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego administrators over the province of Babylon.
When the king issued a harsh decree to put all the wise men to death, Daniel and his three friends knew where to seek help from. They sought wisdom from God and prayed. They pleaded for mecry from God to reveal the mystery of the king's dream. And God heard their prayers and answered them. Daniel knew that it has been revealed to him, not because he has greater wisdom than anyone else, but because God has given it to him. When we are under pressure or face difficult situations, we often look for the quick fix and go to visible sources that might give us sound advices and immediate help that does not last. We should remember that only God has the power and authority over evey situations and answers for everything. Let us come humbly before God and seek His Spirit, wisdom, and knowledge in every situations.
