Kids Blog-The Armor of God
Last week, kids learned that God's Spirit that lives in us is greater than the one who is in the world and we can fight the devil's schemes by putting on God's armor.
Bible Verse: Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. Ephesians 6:10-11
Paul was in prison when he wrote this letter to the believers at the church in Ephesus. After Paul met Jesus on the road to Damascus, he spent the rest of his life struggling and suffering to advance the good news of Jesus. He knew from his own experience that Christian life was not an easy life. Paul said that it was like a battle for we are up against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil. We need to wear the full armor of God, so when the day of evil comes, we may be able to stand firm. Paul used a Roman soldier's armor as a picture of how we are to prepare ourselves to fight the spiritual battle. When we are equipped with God's armor, God wil be our Help to fight against the evil.
Paul listed, the belt of truth around our waist, the breastplate of righteousness, our feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit as God's armor. When we wear the belt of truth and know the knowledge of God's truth, we will know what is true based on God's Word and stand up against lies of the enemy. When we wear the breastplate of righteousness, we rely on God's power to do what is right and just and our sins are forgiven and covered by His righteousness when we repent. When our feet are covered with the gospel of peace, we are ready to share what God has done for us and tell others the Gospel. When we carry the sheid of faith, faith will protect us and help us trust and obey Him even in impossible situations. When we wear the helmet of salvation, we remeber that God has saved us and protects our head. When we carry the sword of the Spriit, we fight the devil with God's Word, the Bible tells us what is true and His eternal promise for us. As we wear God's armor, we must pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.
Everyday we are engaged in a spiritual war. We will fail if we try to protect ourselves using our own strength, abilities, or skills. Let us continuosly pray that God will help us stand firm with His armor and hold on to His Truth and promises.
