Kids Blog-The Writing on the Wall
Last week, kids learned that God sent the message to King Belshazzar who did not humble himself and dishonored God. Daniel explained the inscription that was written on the wall.
Bible Story: King Belshazzar's banquet and the writing on the wall Daniel 5
Bible Verse: "But, you, Belshazzar, his son, have not humbled yourself, though you knew all this." Daniel 5:22
In Daniel 5, King Belshazzar gave a great banquet for a thousand of his nobles and drank wine with them. He gave orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem so that the king, his nobles, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them. As they drank, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone. Suddenly, the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the wall. He was frightened as he watched the hand wrote. The king called for his wise men, however, they could not read the writing. The queen told the king that there is a man named Daniel who has the spirit of the holy gods, a keen mind, knowledge, understanding, and the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve difficult problems. So the king called for Daniel to explain what the writing means. With the Spirit of God, Daniel was able to interpret God's message.
Although King Belshazzar knew how God demonstrated His power and sovereignty to his father Nebuchadnezzar, he did not humbled himself, set himself up against the LORD, had the goblets brought from his temple and drank from them, and praised false gods. Belshazzar did not honor and worship God who holds his life. So God sent the hand that wrote the inscription, Mene, Mene, Tekel, Parsin. Those words meant that God has numbered the days of king Belshazzar's reign and brought it to an end, he has been weighed on the scales and found wanting, and his kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians. That very night, what God has said was fulfilled.
There are times we become prideful, arrogant and act as if we are in charge of our lives. At times, we forget God's sovereignty, greatness, and power, turn our eyes away from Him, and disobey Him. We must remember that we are created to worship God and give glory to Him. This week, let's pray that God will continue to help us to be humble and honor Him with our lives.
