Kids Blog-The Empty Tomb
Last week, kids learned that Jesus is alive!
Bible Story: Jesus has risen
Bible Verse: The angel said to the woman, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Matthew 28:5-6
After Jesus died on the cross, there were two men who came to bury Jesus' body. Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council boldly went to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body. Joseph brought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. Joseph was accomplanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visitd Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds for Jesus' body. Jesus was laid there and a big stone was rolled in front of the enterance to the tomb. Joseph and Nicodemus showed how much they cared for Jesus and loved him. Joseph had prepared his own tomb for himself and planned out his future, but he surrendered his own plan and sacrificed for Jesus. Nicodemus brought valuable gifts to prepare Jesus' body for burial.
On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here, he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his discples, 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you." So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid, yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly, Jesus met them. He said, "Greetings," They came to him and worshipped him. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, there they will see me." It must have been glorious to witness their risen Savior right in front of them after his crucifixion. Jesus has risen just as he said. He has died on the cross for our sins, defeated sin and death and He has risen from the dead! And because He lives, those who believe in Him will also rise again. In John 11:25-26, Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die, and whoever lives by believing in me will never die..." John 3:16 wrote, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life. Only Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. This week, as we reflect on what Jesus has done for us, let us receive the gift of eternal life with grateful hearts and respond by loving Him and living our lives for Him.
