Kids Blog-Jesus' teachings
After Jesus was baptized, Jesus went througout Galilee, teaching in their synogagues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and the region across the Jordan came to follow Him and listen to His teachings.
Bible Story: Jesus' teachings, Matthew 5-6
Bible Verse: In the same way, let your light shine so others can see it. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will bring glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16
He began to teach them and said that blessed are those who are spiritually needy, the kingdom of heaven belongs to them. Blessed are those who are sad, they will be comforted. Blessed are those who are humble, they will be given the earth. Blessed are those who are hungry and thirsty for what is right, they will be filled. Blessed are those who show mercy, they will be shown mercy. Blessed are those whose hearts are pure, they will see God. Blessed are those who make peace, they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who suffer for doing what is right, the kingdom of heaven belongs to them. Blessed are those when people make fun of them or hurt them because they believe in Jesus, their reward in heaven will be great. Jesus also taught that believers were the salt and the light of the world. Just as when we light a lamp, it gives light to everyone in the house, when we do good deeds, we let our light shine and bring glory to God.
Jesus' teachings were different from any other teachings. People heard that they should not murder because anyone who murders will be subject to judgment. However, Jesus said, anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. And anyone who says, "you fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell. Jesus taught that it was not just the external act of murder, but even the internal thoughts of hatred, anger against our brothers and sisters will be subject to judgment for it is sin against God. Jesus also said that although people heard that it was said, "Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth,' they should not resist an evil person, if anyone slaps them on the right cheek, they should turn the other cheek also. He taught them to be kind and love their enemies and pray for those who hurt them.
Jesus continued to teach and said that people should be careful not to do good deed to be seen by others. There might be times we pretend to be holy and give to the needy, pray in front of others just to be seen by other people, to be honoredby others. Jesus said when we give to needy people, we should not let our left hand know what our right hand is doing, and when we pray, we should go into our room, close the door and pray to our Father. It shows that God examines our hearts whenever we give, pray, do good deeds. God sees what we do secretly and discern our intentions. Jesus also assured them not to worry about our life, what we will eat or drink. Just as God feeds the birds and dresses the flowers, when we put God's kingdom first, our Heavenly Father will take care of us and meet our needs. Jesus' teachings remind us that believers should live differently. As we put God's Kingdom first, let us stop chasing after worldly teachings and live in a way Jesus wants us to live.
