Kids Blog-Jesus taken up into heaven
Last week, kids learned that after Jesus was taken up to heaven, the apostles received the gift of the Holy Spirit He promised. They were filled with the Holy Spirit, devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God.
Bible Story: The Holy Spirit comes at Pentecost
Bible Verse: Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Acts 2:38
After Jesus rose from the dead, Jesus presented himself to the apostles and gave many convicing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. He commanded them, "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." After, Jesus was taken up before them and a cloud hid him from their sight. When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place, they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Peter boldly adressed the crowd and preached about Jesus the Lord and Messiah, who died on the cross for their sins, then raised from the dead. He told them to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins, and they will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Those who accepted his message were baptized and God added about three thousand to their number that day. They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and permissions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God! And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved!
One day, Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer. Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have, I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong! He jumped to his feet and began to walk! When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. When all the people came running to them, Peter proclaimed that this man was healed and made strong by faith in the name of Jesus. Peter, John, and the believers put their trust in God and they were devoted to prayer and worship. God fulfilled His promise by filling them with the Holy Spirit and by the power of the Holy Spirit, they boldly preached the Name of Jesus and performed many miracles!
